The journey up the canyon to the first of Maynard's waterfalls was straight forward, thanks to washouts that happened sometime between our second and third trips, clearing the canyon floor of brush and debris. But the ancient log at the base of the falls remains unchanged from when Maynard photographed it nearly 40 years ago. In this scene, I'm shooting from a spot that was buried under logs and debris on our earlier treks.
