Oregon
is blessed with many "calendar scenes" that are familiar
around the world, such as Mount Hood, Crater Lake, the waterfalls
of the Columbia Gorge or the rocky headlands and lighthouses
on the Oregon Coast. Yet these major tourist attractions often
overshadow a wealth of more remote scenic and historic jewels.
Even some of these "famous" scenes, like those found
at Eagle Creek and Yaquina Lighthouse pages, below, are easy
for travelers to miss, despite their fame.
This
site is dedicated to finding and exploring these lesser-known
faces of Oregon, usually found on lonely backroads or remote
trails. They are presented in no particular order, with the only
criterion being exceptional beauty, special historical note or
unique natural history. To tour these backroads, click on the
links below. Keep in mind that all of these pages are filled
with quality images, and thus may be slow do load with older
modems -- but are worth the wait!
